27 Days to a Healthier Happier Christmas
There have been many diet fads through the years including the low fat diet and the low carb/high protein diet. The truth is you need a healthy mix of proteins, carbs AND fats in your diet. The trick is to choose healthier sources of these. Healthy fats include olive oil, nuts, avocados, coconut oil, nut butters, flax seed oil - just to name a few. Eating healthy fats will actually help you burn fat and lose weight and keep you feeling full longer. Healthy carbs are those that don’t spike your blood sugar and include most vegetables and fruits, quinoa, and barley. While it’s good to have an adequate amount of protein in your diet (20 - 25%), a very high protein diet has been associated with an increased risk of digestive problems, kidney stones and depression. It all comes down to balance and making healthier “real food” choices.
