Day 11 – 6 Nutrients that help You Lose Weight
Taking a nutritional supplement becomes even more important than ever when you are trying to lose weight. If your body is not getting all the nutrients it needs, your brain will keep telling you to eat more in attempt to get the missing vitamins and minerals. In other words, supplying your body with all the nutrition it needs, will curb your appetite. As well, the more overweight you are, the more at risk you are for heart disease, arthritis and cancer. Nutritional supplementation helps reduce this increased risk. Here are 5 nutrients that place a specific role in weight reduction:
Probiotics: Studies show that people who have a healthy weight have a ratio of gut bacteria as compared to those who are overweight. Other studies suggest that probiotics may help with the burning of fat and calories and reduce fat storage in your body.
Resveratrol: Along with being protective against heart disease and cancer, resveratrol has been shown to inhibit the production of new fat cells. While it’s found in red wine and grapes, it’s recommended to supplement with 50 – 100 mg. daily.
Vitamin D: Essential for health in general, the level of Vitamin D circulating in your blood has been associated directly with the amount of weight lost when following a weight reduction plan. The higher the Vitamin D blood levels, the more weight lost. It is recommended to supplement with 2,000 – 4,000 IU of Vitamin D daily to reach an adequate blood level.
Chromium: Chromium plays an important role in regulating blood sugar levels. During a weight loss program, this is key for controlling cravings and hunger. Supplementing with 300ug daily is recommended.
Omega-3’s: An article in the Journal of Nutrition suggests that omega-3’s could help with weight loss by increasing fat metabolism.
Fiber: Fiber helps us feel full sooner. It also helps keep food in the stomach longer, slowing down digestion, and keeping us feeling fuller longer.
So don’t forget to take your vitamins, especially when you are trying to lose weight!
"The patient should be made to understand that he or she must take charge of his own life. Don't take your body to the doctor as if he were a repair shop." ~ Quentin Regestein
